High Tech Library Grant 2001 Information

The Indiana Department of Education has been awarded a $6 million grant under the Technology Literacy Challenge Fund program. The Department of Education will fund two High Tech Grant proposals: the High Tech School Grant, targeting secondary schools that propose creative projects to improve student learning using technology; and the High Tech Library Grant, targeting K-12 schools that propose projects to support teaching and learning by focusing on information literacy skills. This year the High Tech Library program will be able to fund up to 15 proposals.

The High Tech Library project presents an important opportunity to improve teaching and learning by providing access to learning resources for Indiana schools. In order to meet the challenge that every student will use technology to facilitate lifelong learning in the 21st Century, it is important that schools, the private sector, teachers, students, governments, and community groups work in partnership toward achieving the following five High Tech Library goals:

  • All teachers will have the training and support they need to help all students learn through the use of computers and access to the information superhighway;
  • All teachers and students will have technology and information literacy skills;
  • Every classroom will be connected to the information superhighway;
  • Effective and engaging software and on-line resources will be an integral part of every school curriculum; and
  • Instructional technology will be used to support students in achieving Indiana's academic standards.

The request for proposal and additional information about preparing a proposal for the High Tech Library Project is posted at <www.doe.in.gov/olr/hitech>.

All proposals must be postmarked by April 12, 2001.
