Technology for Engaged and Active Middle Schools (TEAMS)

Teams of teachers in middle schools use technology in innovative ways throughout the curriculum to engage students in high-level learning activities. The project is for teams that have technology in their classrooms, but want to explore how to use it more effectively as they restructure the learning environment. The goals of the project are to: (1) push the envelope in technology and learning and (2) establish a structure for collaboration in the learning community.

The Center for Research in Learning and Technology (CRLT) will work with teams of teachers to develop a project and apply technology effectively to address the school's goals for teaching and learning. Teams will hone their collaboration skills, experiment with new teaching and learning styles, and examine assessment and evaluation. Teams will also dedicate themselves to true inquiry, action research, and reflective practitioner principles. Effective coaching strategies will be learned and practiced among and between team members. They will learn to help each other as they work to improve individual and collective best practices for improved learning in the classroom.

Middle school teams should have a minimum of one full year's successful experience working with each other on collaborative projects and have the full support of the administration to commit to this project for two years. A $10,000 grant will provide funding for travel, conferences, workshops, and stipends for collaboration.
