A Message from the Superintendent
of Public Instruction
The computer and telecommunications technologies
have changed the face of business, entertainment, and family.
They are changing the face of education substantially, too.
Therefore, I am pleased to present Indiana's
K-12 Plan for Technology: On Line. . .On Target. . .On Demand.
. .Learning Systems. This plan lays a foundation of leadership
and direction to support and strengthen learning environments.
The Indiana Department of Education has worked
closely with parents, educators, the higher education community,
business and industry, legislators, and other governmental agencies
as partners to support and strengthen learning environments through
planning, promoting, and evaluating the effective uses of technology
for teaching and learning.
Development of the plan began more than a
year ago with the vision and direction of the Educational Technology
Council. The council gave great consideration to comments and
recommendations from regional town meetings and focus groups throughout
Indiana. The guidance of this group was vital to the formation
of this plan.
The number one objective of the Indiana Department
of Education is to increase student achievement. To that end,
we believe that this well-defined plan and subsequent funding
can empower schools and ensure that all Indiana students are actively
engaged in learning.
When families, communities, and other partners
continue to support and be actively involved in student learning,
Indiana will remain competitive in the marketplace.
Sincerely,
Dr. Suellen Reed
Superintendent of Public Instruction
