Technology
Leadership Training
for Principals, Assistant Principals, and Curriculum Directors
Begun
in 1990 and administered by the Indiana DOE's Office of Learning
Resources, Principals' Technology Leadership Training (PTLT)
for is designed to meet the need for technology training designed
specifically for Indiana school administrators. Superintendents
nominate administrators in June to participate during the following
year. Training occurs in small groups and utilizes the latest
in computer equipment and software. Throughout the program,
administrators are assisted in identifying resources available
to support their successful use of technology.
Days 1 and 2 provide an introduction
to various computer applications for productivity in the school
office. Participants learn the basics of preparing and manipulating
spreadsheets and information databases, finding online resources
as well as tips for preparing effective desktop publications
and presentations. Technology issues are discussed, including
the process for developing effective technology plans for schools.
Day 3 includes a number of options for additional hands-on training
including workshops at the Indiana Technology Learning Center.
Day 4 provides an opportunity to see technology in action in
a school setting. Day 5 offers more exploration of technology
in schools of today and tomorrow and culminates in a celebration
of participants' accomplishments in the program.
During the months between training days, each administrator
completes a GOAL ACTION PLAN - a technology
project designed to assist with some aspect of school management.
Recognition of the potential of technology to empower administrators,
teachers, and students is an underlying focus throughout the
five days. Cooperative learning strategies are utilized throughout
the training and support activities.
The Indiana DOE is sponsoring technology leadership training
for principals and directors of curriculum from public and
nonpublic schools across Indiana during
school year 1999-2000.
