FAQ

Technology helps people learn, be creative, and become players and communicators in a global village. Technology, tied to the Internet, allows students of all ages to engage in knowledge building on a worldwide stage as never before possible. Many learning opportunities may never reach students in high-poverty or isolated schools except through the use of technology.

Background Information

Recognizing the proliferation of virtual education programs on the Internet and the need to assist Indiana schools in meeting the academic needs of all Indiana learners, the Educational Technology Council has been investigating virtual education programs throughout the United States. This past September, the Educational Technology Council, led by Dr. Karen Goeller and Philip Lieberman, invited all interested individuals to discuss what Indiana schools would like to see in a virtual education program in Indiana.

In October, Indiana educators and administrators met in Indianapolis to discuss the possibilities of a virtual education system and to raise issues and express concerns over how a virtual education system would benefit Indiana learners.

Over the next several months the Educational Technology Council held a series of meetings to investigate the possibilities of virtual education in Indiana. Representatives of the Florida High School (a virtual high school program in Florida) and the Indiana Online Academy developed by MSD Wayne Township, were among those invited to present to the Council.

This web site contains the outline of the Indiana Virtual Education System (IVES), a virtual education program designed especially for Indiana that was developed from the research of the Educational Technology Council. Please feel free to send your comments about the program. Offer suggestions on how the program could be improved or comment on what pitfalls and special situations that need to be considered.
