Each
year the Indiana Department
of Education sponsors a grant program in economic education.
The grants are competitive and open to Indiana school corporations,
K-12.
Two categories of grants are available:

Start-up Grants up to $1,000 for planning
and initiating economic education programs.
- Program Improvement and Continuation Grants of $1,000 to $2,000 for expansion and improvement of start-up grants
Proposals should be 5-7 pages in length and
should focus on integrating economic education into the existing
curriculum. Some previous grant projects included the development
of:

An articulated K-6 economics curriculum
- A
unit on northwest Indiana's part in the global economy
- A
school/business partnership program
- In-service
training and awareness programs in economic education for
teachers
- A
videotape illustrating economic development in a local community
- A
curriculum using children's literature to teach economic
concepts
- A
unit highlighting significant economic events in U.S. History
Grant monies may be used for a variety of
purposes, including the purchase of curriculum materials and
training in economic education. Monies may not be used for
the purchase of computer hardware.

Announcements of the grant program will be
sent to superintendents in August. Completed
proposals are due October 6, 2008, with winners
announced in November.
