Program Development Overview
Curriculum
Development
The Office of Program Development staff uses modern and effective
research techniques to support the creation of academic standards.
These standards are focused on high quality standards which use
interdisciplinary and integrated approaches to student learning.
The needs of students drive the process and involves teachers, parents,
students, higher education faculty, and business community leaders
to establish the foundation necessary to create the standards which
guide curriculum development at the local level. Academic Standards
have been developed in the following areas: mathematics, science,
social studies (including economics), English/Language arts, foreign
language, physical education, health, music, visual arts, theater,
and dance. The standards are revised in conjunction with the six-year
textbook adoption cycle.
Curriculum,
Instruction, and Assessment -- Technical Assistance
The Office of Program Development staff provides regional interactive
workshops for teachers, curriculum developers, and administrators.
These workshops allow substantial time and support to ensure full
understanding of the goals and skills essential to successful student
learning. Emphasis is given to professional development opportunities
that promote alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment
practices.
