MEDIA ADVISORY: Culinary arts students to compete in Indianapolis

Students from across Indiana will take part in a culinary arts competition from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, March 6 at the Adams Mark Hotel (2544 Executive Drive) in Indianapolis. The Indiana ProStart Student Invitational is the culmination of a two-year program designed to teach high school students the culinary and management skills needed for a career in the restaurant and foodservice industry.

Student culinary teams will display their creative abilities through the preparation of a meal consisting of a starter, entrée and dessert rated by judges from colleges and the restaurant industry. Student management teams will demonstrate their foodservice knowledge and collaboration skills by competing in a case-study and a game show-style event.

Winning teams at the Indiana ProStart Student Invitational will earn college scholarships and the opportunity to compete in the National ProStart Student Invitational in San Diego, Calif. next month. The Fifth Annual Indiana ProStart Student Invitational is sponsored by the Indiana Department of Education, Indiana Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, the Indiana Hospitality Education Foundation and Ivy Tech Community College.
