Noise Suppression Switch
Approved specification language and effective date
All school buses shall be equipped with a on/off
type switch designed to simultaneously disable interior noise-producing
accessories, if so equipped, such as: windshield and window defroster
fans, driver and passenger heater fans, circulation fans, powered
roof ventilators, air-conditioning systems, and radios or radio
speakers. Identification shall be provided on or adjacent to the
switch, in order to clearly state its purpose and distinguish it
from other controls. The switch shall be accessible to the driver
in a seated position.
Exception: On Type A buses with cutaway front section
chassis and with bodies manufactured by a company other than the
manufacturer of the chassis, the original equipment accessories,
except radios (two-way, AM/FM, satellite radio, or other auditory
type devices), provided by the chassis manufacturer are exempt
from these requirements.
Effective date: All school buses with a body build
date of January 1, 2006 or later.
