Re: Final rule on Type 'A' school buses

The State School Bus Committee is pleased to provide
you a copy of the final rule of
the revisions in Title 575 IAC 1-1-1 and 575 IAC 1-2 pertaining
to Type A school buses .
The text of the existing rule appears in this style type, additions
appear in this style type, and deletions will
appear in this style
type.
The revisions are effective April 18, 2001.
A synopsis of the final rule is shown below.
- The definition for a Type A school bus now includes
two classifications: A-1 and A-2.
- Type A-1 has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR)
of 10,000 pounds and under.
- Type A-2 has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR)
of over 10,000 pounds.
- Type A-2 buses must have a minimum of one push-out
emergency split sash window per side. This window is in addition
to the emergency exit requirements of federal standard.
- Emergency split sash windows on the Type A-1 are
optional.
