Trying and Sentencing Juveniles as Adults

The National Center for Juvenile Justice (NCJJ) has announced the availability of "Trying and Sentencing Juveniles as Adults: An Analysis of State Transfer and Blended Sentencing Laws."

The 23-page report, supported by a grant from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, provides a comprehensive overview of legal mechanisms under which juveniles may be tried and sanctioned in the criminal justice system. Updating and expanding previous NCJJ work in this area, the report reflects changes in state statutes made through the 2002 legislative sessions and broadens the focus of its analysis to take into account blended sentencing laws that enable juvenile courts to impose criminal sentences under certain circumstances.
