ABA Cites Truancy Prevention Programs
"The American Bar Association (ABA) Criminal Justice Section and its Juvenile Justice Committee are addressing truancy prevention and other issues associated with at-risk youth," observes ABA President Elect Karen Mathis. A survey of ABA members notes a number of local truancy intervention efforts, including the following:
- Atlanta Bar Association & Fulton County (Atlanta) Juvenile Court, Truancy Intervention Project (TIP) (Atlanta, GA)
- Kings County, Truancy Reduction Alliance to Contact Kids Program (Brooklyn, NY)
- Abolish Chronic Truancy (ACT) (Los Angeles County, CA)
- Hennepin County, Truancy Intervention Project (TIP) (Minneapolis, MN)
- Truancy Habits Reduced, Increasing Valuable Education (THRIVE) (Oklahoma City, OK)
- The Stop Truancy and Recommended Treatment (START) Project (Philadelphia, PA)
- King County BECCA Bill (Seattle, WA).
