Counting Students

Q Is this collection mandatory?
  A

All students finishing Algebra I at the time of testing, including middle school students taking Algebra I for HS credit, should participate in the Algebra I Core 40 End-of-Course Assessment.

All students finishing Biology I at the time of testing should participate in the Biology I Core 40 End-of-Course Assessment.  The Biology I End-of-Course Assessment is a component of No Child Left Behind (NCLB).  Every state must administer a High School Science test to comply with NCLB requirements; Indiana will use the Biology I ECA to fulfill that requirement.  All students that complete a Biology I course for HS credit must also participate in the Biology I End-of Course Assessment.

All students finishing Algebra II at the time of testing should participate in one of the Algebra II Assessments. All Grade 11 students finishing an English/Language Arts course at the time of testing, regardless of the specific English course, should participate in one of the English 11 assessments.

Q

I understand that you want all the lists of students in Algebra 1, Biology 1, English 11, and Algebra 2, even if the only barcodes we need are for the paper/pencil which will be Algebra 1 at the middle school and Algebra 2. After we send the list down to you for registration, will I only get labels back for the Algebra 1 at the middle school and Algebra 2? I don't want labels for Algebra 1 at the high school, Biology 1, and English 11 because they are taking it one line, and no use wasting my tax dollars on labels I don't need. How will you know which labels to send?

  A

Yes, schools will only receive labels for Paper-and-Pencil tests. The Data Collection also collects information for those students in the online mode to register those students for testing.
Our vendor knows which tests to send labels for because corporations have designated PP or Online during the registration process with vendors.

Q

What are the consequences of not uploading a student's information that will need to take the test or uploading a student's information to test and then the student does not test?

A If you don't upload a few students (for PP testing) in their upload, students can still test since they will be shipped overage.  If they upload and the student doesn't test, they will need to let us know why he/she didn't test by email.

If you don't upload a few students (for online testing) in their upload, a student could still test - however they will need to go through manual registration at our test vendor's site.

Q

Will we be able to “bubble” in accommodations onto the label?   I plan to answer “no” for all students and “bubble” the “yes” students when we get the label.

A Bubbling will override the barcode label, so yes, it is possible that a corp could do this.

Q

We plan to administer all ECA tests during the third administration period.  I plan to send data for labels during the third collection period. (March 3, 2008 – March 21, 2008.)

  A

That's correct.

2.
Q

I will not send any data during the first and second collection periods.  For the electronic signoff for Collections one and two, I plan to answer “no records for this school”.  Am I understanding correctly the DOE-ECABAR instructions?

  A Yes.
