How to Resolve Duplicate STN Numbers

The Duplicate STN Form is to be used to notify the DOE of duplicate stn numbers when you have determined that the numbers are actually duplicates for one student. Review the information on the STN LOOKUP for each stn number for the student.

Once you have verified that the numbers are duplicates, decide which record to keep. IF THE STUDENT HAD TAKEN THE ISTEP+ UNDER ONE OF THE NUMBERS, THAT STN SHOULD BE THE NUMBER USED FROM NOW ON. If the student had not taken the ISTEP+, choose the STN that corresponds with their other records – these include Attendance, English Proficiency, and Pupil Enrollment. If each STN is associated with student records, choose the STN that was first assigned from the school history.

Once received and the correction made continue to use the permanent STN number unless contacted by the STN Team.
