Q |
On the ISTEP+ Retest, is this just
for grades 11 and 12?
|
| |
A |
Typically grades 11 and 12. A 10th
grade student that moves into the state after the fall testing can
retest in the spring. |

Q |
Our principals have been calling other
schools in the state asking for ISTEP+ information (both
scores and "pass/fail") for students enrolled in their
IPS last year for 162+ days. This year, some principals of
contacted schools are arguing that such a release would be
a violation of FERPA or some other law protecting ISTEP+
scores. Since they have
never heard this before, they are understandably confused. Could
you help me to shed some light on this matter? |
| |
A |
It is a violation of FERPA! Only those with
a "direct educational interest" can see the scores. In
other words if you educated a child all last year and that
kid moved to MSD Wayne over the summer, they would be breaking
federal law if they reported any student information to you
at all, test scores, attendance, grades, under FERPA you (IPS)
no longer have an "educational interest" in the child. |

Q |
I guess my concern is that the student
shows up on our ISTEP Corrections file even though they
were not active at the time of the test. They come
back with an exam number, but no test scores. I'm trying
to figure out the best way to keep this from happening. If
the student is here when we send the file for the ISTEP
labels and then leaves before the test is taken, how do we
remove those students from the file? We don't want them reflected
in our totals. |
| |
A |
Those students should not be in your ISTEP Correction
file because you requested a label. They may be in your file
because the ISTEP test was sent to you and then not handled
in the proper manner by the testing coordinator. We cannot
delete this record. If this student prevents you from making
AYP, then you will need to file the appeal process. Check with
your ISTEP Test coordinator on further details. |

Q |
The file that I downloaded from the
STN web site for corrections did not
include the 11th and 12th grade retakes. Should they have been? |
| |
A |
No, the 11th and 12th grade retakes will not
be included in the file that you downloaded for Correction
for Accountability. |

Q |
The roster sheets show gender, but labels do
not have Gender on them. |
| |
A |
Gender does appear on the roster, but it will
not appear on the labels (if you are referring to the sample
label in either the Test Coordinators Manual or the Examiner's
Manual and you see the gender, that is our mistake, the wrong
version is shown in these documents and I have it on the list
to fix next year). If the gender is correct on the roster,
then you can be assured that the data is correct in the file,
we just didn't have room to include it on the label. |

ISTEP Corrections
When you transfer the ISTEP Corrections file and review
the results, you
may find a warning that points out that the names are different
on the
test than what is reported in the stn lookup. To obtain
the correct stn
number, do a lookup of the partial name as reported on
the ISTEP EXAM, you
will find all occurances of the students with that portion
of the
name.(Last and first). Shorten the results with M or Female
selected.
Select the student that took the test in your school to
find the correct
stn number. Correct the istep correction file and transfer
again or go to
the input screen to make the correction. |

Q |
STN Correction Input Form. I see that option
under data transfer; however, there is no button that says
No Corrections. |
| |
A |
You will not see the button because you performed a data
transfer on Istep
Corrections and uploaded a file. You have several errors and
warnings that
you should correct. Once you have uploaded a file you will
not be able to
report "No corrections". Reporting No corrections
means you have reviewed
the data, had no errors and warnings to correct. |

Q |
If free & Reduced
are bubbled in now, then a correction file sent for all
students, will the file override the bubble? |
| |
A |
No the bubble will always win! |
