IMAP Assessment Information for Year Two Teachers

In the past, IMAP Year Two Teachers had to complete a portfolio in order to satisfy their IMAP requirements. Though the portfolio concept had the best intentions, it was felt by former IMAP Teachers, Scorers, Mentors, Administrators and the Indiana Department of Education that the portfolio caused a great deal of stress, anxiety and took up a great deal of time and energy from the beginning educator. In addition, the results of the portfolio did not really establish whether new teachers were ready for their five year Proficient Practitioner license.

The attachment below is the replacement for the portfolio. It is an assessment tool that will be completed by the Building Level Administrator (BLA)/Principal. Your BLA has been, hopefully, observing you on a regular basis and is the best person to ascertain how you have developed as a teacher at this point. This tool is based on the ten INTASC Principles.

You are responsible to print off a copy of this assessment and give it to your Building Level Administrator (BLA)/Principal. You and your BLA will meet to complete this document. As a Year Two IMAP teacher, you should be at the ‘proficient’ level for at least 8 of the 10 principles in order to have completed your IMAP requirements. It is recommended that you and your BLA go through this document at least once prior to the final evaluation at the end of the year. This will give you a chance to see which areas need improvement before your final evaluation. Please feel free to share this page with your BLA so they may see what their responsibilities are.

Once you have successfully completed the IMAP assessment (8 out of 10 principles at the proficient level), your BLA will give you an IMAP completion letter. You will submit this letter with your application materials for your five year Proficient Practitioner License.

If your BLA has determined that you are not ‘proficient’ in at least 8 out of the 10 principles, you can renew your IP license for another two years. You will enroll in IMAP the next school year and complete your IMAP requirements at that time.
