Professionalizing a License
Listed below are the criteria for an individual to professionalize his or her license. Applicants must also complete one of the following renewal requirements:
- Six (6) semester hours completed at an accredited Indiana institution – The six (6) semester hours must have been completed after the issue date of the license you are renewing.
- Six (6) semester hours completed at an accredited Out-of-State institution - Submit all materials and official transcripts directly to the address below. The six (6) semester hours must have been completed after the issue date of the license you are renewing.
- Professional Growth Plan (PGP)
- National Board of Professional Teaching Standards Certification (NBPTS) - Submit all materials and a copy of your NBPTS certification. Click here to go to the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards
Complete a profile, an application and pay for the application through our online Licensing Verification and Information System, LVIS. Then, select the best option (below) based upon your situation.
Instructional
- Official transcripts showing completion of Masters degree from accredited institution
- Proof of two (2) years teaching experience in an accredited school**
- Hold Proficient Practitioner/Standard/Provisional license for five (5) years
Administrator
- Official transcripts showing a total of 60 hours of graduate coursework from accredited institution in Administration and related areas
- Five (5) years administrative experience in the content area of the license in an accredited school or public school district
School Services
Social Worker
- Proof of two (2) years experience as a school social worker in an accredited school**
- Hold Proficient Practitioner/Standard/Provisional license for five (5) years
School Counselor
- Proof of two (2) years experience as a school counselor in an accredited school**
- Hold Proficient Practitioner/Standard/Provisional license for five (5) years
School Nurse
- Official transcripts showing completion of Masters in Nursing degree from accredited institution
- Proof of two (2) years experience as a school nurse in an accredited school**
- Hold Proficient Practitioner/Standard/Provisional license for five (5) years
School Psychologist
- Proof of two (2) years experience as a school psychologist in an accredited school or public school district**
- Hold Proficient Practitioner/Standard/Provisional license for five years
** For Rules 2002/REPA licenses, completion of IMAP satisfies the proof of two (2) years teaching experience
