Misuse of Praxis Scores
To: Superintendents
From: Shawn Sriver, Director, Division of Professional Standards
Date: November 3, 2006
The Division of Professional Standards has received
numerous requests for individual Praxis II scores in order to verify
teachers’ highly qualified (HQ) status. If a teacher has taken
Praxis II in a content area and verifies that they have passed the
test in that content area, they are considered highly qualified.
The actual test score is irrelevant in determining whether the teacher
is highly qualified. Test scores are confidential and are released
only to the examinee.
Please see the attached letter provided by the Educational
Testing Service stating their policy on appropriate use
of test scores.
