Welcome to the Indiana Department of Education Web site. It's my honor to serve all Hoosiers as the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, but I'm most humbled to serve the students in our K-12 schools.
Over the coming weeks and months, we will set clear goals for the Department of Education in our quest to provide outstanding learning opportunities for Indiana's students. In so doing, we hope to become a department that:
- Creates a culture in schools where the top priority is student learning,
- Looks for ways to say "Yes" to local schools as they creatively find ways to deliver high quality education to students,
- Works to tear down silos that isolate different areas and layers of education so that student learning becomes a more collaborative effort,
- Seeks to actively and accurately measure our progress, and
- Is known across the country as the best education state.
It is my sincere hope that together we can make the Indiana Department of Education a national model and — more importantly — an organization that helps every one of Indiana's students reach their full potential. During this time of transition, I urge you to call my staff with any questions or suggestions you may have.
