Indiana Teacher of the Year
Lebanon educator named 2010 Teacher of the Year
Byron Ernest
Each year, the Indiana Department of Education conducts this special program to recognize outstanding classroom teachers from across the state. One person, in accordance with National Teacher of the Year guidelines, is chosen to represent Indiana teachers at the national level.
All school corporations are invited to share in this recognition program by honoring their teachers and nominating one teacher to represent local educators at the state level of the program. It is hoped that the underlying idea behind the effortrecognition of excellent teachers—will in this way spread to every community in Indiana.

The last national activity of the 2008 State Teachers of the Year, sponsored by the Pearson Foundation, was the creation of individual videos on "Why I Teach". You can access those videos on the Pearson Foundation website at: http://pearsonfoundation.org/ccsso-toy/2008/ Almost all of the states are represented…a couple could not participate due to scheduling conflicts or illness. All in all it is again a remarkable collection of moving stories of what makes these teachers so very special to there students and to us all. Thank you coordinators for allowing me to work with such a gifted group of educators over the last year. Feel free to create a link on your teacher's website directly to their video on the Pearson Foundation site. Thanks and gratitude to the Pearson Foundation and their President, Mark Nieker, who made it all happen. Enjoy! |
