The Indiana State Board of Education approved Indiana educators’ cut score recommendations for the Indiana Learning Evaluation Assessment Readiness Network (ILEARN) assessments on July 25, 2019. The approved ILEARN cut scores for each content area assessment continue to be in effect for ILEARN test administrations moving forward. This document also reflects the highest and lowest obtainable scale scores for each ILEARN assessment.
The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) releases 10 items per grade and content area each year from ILEARN assessments. Released Items are provided in Cambium Assessment, Inc.’s (CAI) sample test delivery system and can be used as sample assessments to familiarize students with test content and format.
NOTE: No items were released following the 2019-2020 school year due to the cancellation of all Spring 2020 ILEARN assessments.
Included in the Released Items Repository (RIR) are:
- Sample assessments for each grade level and content area
- Sample Performance Tasks for Mathematics, English/Language Arts (ELA), and Science
- Designated supports and accommodations to be applied on-demand for any assessment by any user

Policy PLDs
ILEARN Policy Performance Level Descriptors (PLDs) are high-level statements that reflect the varying degrees to which students may demonstrate proficiency on each grade-level ILEARN assessment. A diverse panel of Indiana educators convened to consider many factors (e.g., Indiana’s diverse student populations, the Indiana Academic Standards, and national reference points) as they defined each Policy PLD.
The Policy PLDs were used to develop more specific content area Range PLDs to inform item development, instructional practices and standard setting.
Range PLDs
IDOE enlisted Indiana educators to develop Range PLDs for the ILEARN assessment. ILEARN Range PLDs are content-specific statements that reflect the varying degrees to which students may demonstrate proficiency on grade-level standards assessed on the upcoming ILEARN assessment. IDOE used the ILEARN Range PLDs to inform the standard setting process and continues to use them to inform item development. Indiana educators are welcome to use them to help inform instructional practices.

Indiana Educator Scoring Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Classroom teachers and instructional coaches interested in participating in Spring 2021 ILEARN hand-scoring activities are encouraged to review the information in this document. |
ILEARN Individual Student Reports (ISRs) reflect content-specific measures for ELA and Mathematics for each student in grades 3-8. Lexile levels provide insight into students’ ability to read and comprehend text and serve as indicators to help select appropriate texts for their reading levels. Quantile measures indicate students' mathematical skills and help identify appropriate activities to support the development of mathematical skills and understanding. Visit IDOE’s Lexiles and Quantiles page for more information.
