Indiana Reading Evaluation and Determination for Grade 2

IREAD-2 is a benchmark assessment for Indiana students in Grade 2. Based on the Indiana Academic Standards, IREAD-2 provides Indiana schools with an assessment to monitor student progress toward the mastery of foundational reading standards prior to IREAD-3.

The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) is excited to share resources for the voluntary Grade 2 benchmark reading assessment. Indiana educators approved IREAD-2 in July 2018. Aligned to standards assessed on IREAD-3, the assessment will measure foundational reading skills of students at the end of their Grade 2 school year.

IREAD-2 Test Design

IREAD-2 is designed to measure basic reading skills and reading comprehension based on Indiana Academic Standards, as aligned to the IREAD-3 assessment.

Blueprints define the essential content which will be measured on the assessment. The resources below explain how to understand and use the ILEARN blueprints to support instruction.

Item Specifications define exactly how each standard will be measured. These documents are used to create items and include information such as evidence statements, Depth of Knowledge, content limits, requirements, and sample items.
