Enrollment is one of the most important factors in the success of any school. Having low enrollment puts financial strain on a school and prevents it from being able to focus on delivering quality academics. The failure to sustain a consistent level of enrollment is the number one reason why a charter school fails.
The Indiana Department of Education is pleased to announce that as part of the Quality Counts Grant that they will be providing an intensive enrollment marketing course for charter schools in the state of Indiana.
Designed by our partner and enrollment marketing expert, Nick LeRoy of Bright Minds Marketing, this 8-week intensive series of lessons will help schools develop the capabilities to improve their marketing and increase student enrollment, 45 PGU credits can be earned by completing this course.
In this 8-week course, school leaders learn how to develop their own school enrollment system. The course will consist of 45-minute sessions twice a week, and participants will actively learn and practice skills, strategies, and tactics that are required to build an effective enrollment system for their school.
Through a combination of live video sessions, supplemental reading (provided through the course), and interactive action items, school leaders will learn by doing and each assignment that they complete will have a direct impact on improving the enrollment function of their school. At the end of the course, students will have created deliverables that can be immediately used to support their school’s enrollment system. The required action items will both professionally develop the individual and have a direct positive impact on their school.
The course will include sessions such as:
- How to develop your school’s brand
- Building an effective enrollment process
- Maximizing the school tour
- Using digital marketing in your enrollment efforts
- How to design your school’s website to increase enrollment
- Why prospect nurturing is critical in enrollment

A Comprehensive Approach to Driving Enrollment at Charter Schools
Participants will spend approximately 1.5 hours a week in virtual course delivery with supplementary assignments and action items adding an additional 2 - 3 hours a week of work outside of lectures. This supplemental work is designed to reinforce the concepts introduced in the lectures and allow the participants to create enduring work that will directly benefit their school’s enrollment efforts.
Any school staff member whose job responsibilities includes supporting or managing student enrollment at the school may apply to participate in this course. This may include principals, vice principals, deans, family and community liaisons, or a lead teacher whose partial responsibility is student recruitment and retention. We understand that charter school staff wear multiple hats and fulfill multiple roles, so it will be up to the school to decide what staff member will be best to participate in this course.
How do schools benefit from their staff participating in this course?
- Staff will receive professional development and capacity building that will directly help their school increase recruitment and enrollment
- Schools will financially benefit from new student enrollment generated by changes made because of this course
- Schools will learn approaches that can impact student retention
During the course, participants will be allowed to email the instructor in addition to weekly open office hours for phone calls.
The classes will occur every Tuesday and Thursday at 1 pm. Supplemental office hours will be provided on Friday at 1 pm and participants can book time to discuss issues they may be having with the work. Participants are also free to email the instructor if they have questions at any time. Emails will be responded to within 36 hours.

Nick LeRoy is the president and founder of Bright Minds Marketing. LeRoy previously served as the Executive Director for the Indiana Charter School Board (ICSB). As the statewide authorizer of charter schools, LeRoy oversaw the management of a portfolio of diverse schools. During his tenure at the ICSB, the state’s portfolio grew from eight approved schools to sixteen approved schools. Prior to his time at the ICSB, LeRoy spent 15 years as a marketing executive in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries. He managed global brand campaigns for multiple products. LeRoy received his MBA from Emory University where he was a member of the marketing and consulting clubs. He has a bachelors degree in History from the University of Utah. LeRoy lives in Indianapolis, Indiana with his wife, Lori, two sons; Nate and Alex, and their two cats and dog.
