The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) Office of School and Community Nutrition is excited to announce the 2020 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) workshops for all new and returning sponsors. There is no better investment into your success as a SFSP sponsor than attending the annual State Agency training. The training sessions will prepare program administrators and/or volunteers for effective and compliant operations. The State Agency expects all sponsors to participate in one of the local trainings. Nevertheless, sponsors that had findings during the last administrative review must attend.

Returning Sponsor Workshop:  Offered in multiple locations across the state, these trainings provide participants with the latest program information and cover all the main aspects of successful program management.

  • Who should attend?  The best persons to attend would be a Kitchen Manager or Site Supervisor who is involved with daily program implementation. Sponsors that experienced significant SFSP review findings last year or had change in staff are required to participate. Ideally, every year, an administrative and operating staff representative attend the in-person training to learn about the latest changes in the legislative and the daily management side of SFSP operations. Due to the seating limitations, a number of attendees will be limited to a maximum of three people per organization.

New Sponsor Workshop: This session is limited to organizations that have never operated the SFSP or skipped the sponsorship in the previous year. The training will provide a complete overview of the program, including sponsorship requirements and application process. Before registering for this session, attendees must pre-qualify to determine if participant eligibility requirements will be met under their sponsorship.

To pre-qualify, contact: Tina Skinner, SFSP Specialist, at tskinner@doe.in.gov.

  • Who should attend?  The person(s) in charge of the actual day-to-day SFSP operation at the meal service site and the person overseeing the whole program administration. State Agency recommends two (2) individuals from each agency attend. Due to the limited space, early registration is required.

Additional Reminders:

  • Bring a valid picture ID: A security screening will be conducted at the entrance of a training location. Be prepared to present a picture ID such as a valid driver’s license.
  • Workshop attendance is open to everybody: Although completing a free training is a mandatory prerequisite for all new sponsors, it does not obligate an agency to sponsorship nor does it render automatic approval from the State Agency.
  • In case of hazardous weather or poor road conditions: Workshop may be cancelled and enrolled participants notified via email.

Notice concerning start times!!  All workshop start times are listed as local time (Eastern or Central Time) where the training is scheduled to take place.
