Ensuring Compliance with Special Dietary Needs in Your Schools
The Indiana Department of Education’s School and Community Nutrition, Student Health Services Specialist, and 504 Coordinator will make administrators aware of the current American Disabilities Act (ADA), the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendment Act, Rehabilitation Act, and Civil Rights guidelines for managing students with special dietary needs, which can range from simple food intolerances (e.g. milk) to life threatening food allergies, chronic diseases, and tube feedings, to ensure compliance with special dietary needs in your school.
Topics will include: Implementing Procedural Safeguards; the role of the 504 Coordinator; and Team Management (includes school nurse, 504 coordinator, and food service staff).
