The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) is pleased to announce the Office of Special Education is accepting applications for the position of independent hearing officer (IHO) and mediator. IHOs and mediators are being recruited pursuant to the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Article 7 (511 IAC 7). House Enrolled Act 1629 recently required that the IDOE ensure that all mediators and hearing officers who initially begin serving after June 30, 2019, are effectively trained and committed to serve as both mediators and IHOs. An applicant must be a licensed attorney in good standing with the Indiana Roll of Attorneys and be a registered mediator on the Indiana Commission for Continuing Legal Education’s Director of Registered Mediators.
